The Wu Family Watchtower in Shicao Gully

The Wu Family Watchtower in Shicao Gully is a cultural relic protected at the provincial level in Sichuan Province.

The Wu Family Watchtower is located in Shicao Village, Hexing Township, Yingshan County, 3.5 kilometers from the township center of Hexing. Although there is a village road passing by the left side of the watchtower, it is only accessible when the weather is clear and only motorcycles can use it. On foot, the fastest route from the township to the watchtower takes at least 40 minutes. According to Yi Dexi, the Party branch secretary of Shicao Village who served as our guide, there are about 10 households and nearly 50 residents living around the watchtower, most of whom have the surname Wu. Their main source of income comes from traditional farming and animal husbandry.

The watchtower has long served as the residence of the Wu family. Due to its compact structure, thick and sturdy walls, and well-preserved condition, it has only undergone one minor repair to date. Yi Dexi said that in August 2010, the Wu Family Watchtower was listed as a cultural relic protected at the county level in Yingshan County, and was upgraded to a municipal-level protected monument in November of the same year.

Construction control zone: A 15-meter radius extending outward from the protected area.
