The Sanmenhai Ecotourism Area is located in Poxin Village, Paoli Township, Fengshan County, in the northwest of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It lies at the heart of the world’s typical karst landform region. It is about 300 kilometers from Nanning, accessible via highway and secondary roads, with a travel time of around 4 hours; it is 380 kilometers from Guilin, with highways, first-class roads, and secondary roads all accessible; it is 20 kilometers from Fengshan County town and 40 kilometers from Bama County town, the world-famous longevity destination; it is 120 kilometers from the Leye Dashiwei Tiankeng Group.

A “tiankeng” (skylight) is a new type of karst tourism resource with extremely high sightseeing value. The Sanmenhai Scenic Area boasts as many as seven tiankengs, forming a beaded tiankeng cluster arranged in a pattern resembling the Big Dipper in the north gate. This unique configuration is unparalleled in global tourism resources. Dr. Nosariolucoli, a renowned Italian scientific exploration expert, pointed out: “The Sanmenhai tiankeng cluster in Fengshan is a spectacular beaded collapse where mountains, water, caves, and sky merge into one—an extremely rare and truly unique phenomenon in the world.”

For this reason, Sanmenhai is hailed by domestic and international experts and scholars as the “Window of the World.” The tiankeng cluster here integrates mountains, water, caves, and sky into a magnificent whole. With its mysterious underground rivers, wondrous and spectacular karst lakes, karst springs, large cave systems, tiankeng groups, tiankeng clusters, and natural bridges—encompassing all key features of karst landforms—the area forms a veritable Karst Global Geopark.

The scenic area enjoys a pleasant climate, with an average annual temperature of 19°C, warm in winter and cool in summer. Its negative oxygen ion content exceeds 10,000 per cubic centimeter, earning it the reputation of a “natural oxygen bar.” The Poxin River in Sanmenhai is the source of the longevity belt within the Bama Panlong River Basin, the world-famous longevity destination. The scenic area has a population of fewer than 4,000 people, yet it is home to as many as four centenarians, resulting in a centenarian ratio of one in a thousand—one of the highest concentrations of centenarians in the world.
