Farewell to the century-old Fengshan Railway Station – locals lament: “We’re going to miss it so much!”

The century-old Taiwan Railways Fengshan Station, which holds many cherished memories from the youth of Fengshan residents, officially closed on the evening of the 21st after the last train arrived at 10 PM, as part of the railway undergrounding policy. Many netizens who learned of the closure expressed great sadness: “So many memories from my younger days are tied to this place…”

With its slightly faded walls and the old platform that welcomed bustling crowds every day, the former Fengshan Station, established in 1907, has stood for over a century. Deeply rooted in the community, it served as a spiritual symbol that carried the bittersweet memories of countless Fengshan residents. However, to accommodate the railway undergrounding project and the construction of the future underground station, the old station — including parts of the tracks and platforms — had to go dark for good.

Upon learning that Fengshan Station would be retired from service, many netizens took to Facebook to mourn its passing, with some still struggling to accept the reality. “This was the place that accompanied me through three years of high school!” “That year, Fengshan Railway Station sent me off to military service…” “You occupied more than a fifth of my life, yet in the blink of an eye, you’re gone. Thank you, Fengshan Station.” Others shared unique memories: “Do you remember [name]? We used to come here and watch all those weirdos and flashers together!” A flood of personal recollections made many Fengshan residents feel a deep sense of reluctance to let go.

On the day of its official closure, many people made special trips to Fengshan Station, either taking photos together or documenting every corner of the station, hoping to preserve the memories of the past forever. Until the underground railway and new station are completed, a temporary new station will temporarily serve passengers traveling through Fengshan.
