Fengshan is a veteran revolutionary base area and one of the key counties in the heartland of the Youjiang Revolutionary Base. To commemorate the revolutionary martyrs, after the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the Fengshan County Party Committee and the County People’s Government built a cemetery at the entrance of Chuanglongyan Cave in the northern part of the county town in the 1950s, which was later relocated and rebuilt on the hill behind the County Agriculture Bureau in the 1960s. In 1999, the People’s Government of the Autonomous Region elevated the county’s martyrs’ cemetery to a provincial-level cultural relics protection unit. In 2003, the Regional Party Committee and the Regional People’s Government included the construction of the new Fengshan Revolutionary Martyrs Monument as one of the projects in the Dongba-Feng Infrastructure Construction Campaign. The County Party Committee and the County People’s Government also incorporated the development of the Martyrs Park project into the overall urban construction plan for implementation. The Martyrs Park campaign project involved the requisition of 35 mu of land, the construction of a monument, the building of a 1.1-kilometer-long fourth-grade road within the park, the leveling of over 7,000 square meters of land, the installation of 148 meters of stone railings, the paving of over 1,400 square meters of stone flooring, and the planting of more than 200 trees. The monument is the main structure of the park, standing 16.8 meters tall. It features a frame-supported body with a dry-hanging structure and a three-figure sculptural ensemble at the top. The base of the monument is 10 meters high, and the sculptural group is 6.8 meters high. The total investment in the Martyrs Park campaign project was 2.16 million yuan, including 700,000 yuan in special funds from higher authorities, 620,000 yuan in donations from cadres and workers, and 500,000 yuan allocated by the county finance. The project was completed on November 28, 2004. After the completion of the campaign, with the care and support of the Autonomous Region Department of Civil Affairs and other higher authorities, the County Party Committee and the County People’s Government raised funds through various channels, successively investing 1.71 million yuan to complete supporting projects including an exhibition hall, a leisure corridor, mountain pathways, and pavilions. Today, the Martyrs Park has become an important base for revolutionary tradition education and patriotic education in the county, further enhancing the overall urban development and aesthetic quality of Fengshan County.
