The Sanjiang Dong Village Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

Liuzhou’s Sanjiang is located in northern Guangxi and is praised by visitors as the “Hometown of World Bridges and Drum Towers,” the “Dong Ethnic Culture Hall,” and the “Shangri-La of the Dong People.” The China Sanjiang Dong Village Scenic Area is located in the county seat of Sanjiang, situated on the golden route of ethnic culture tourism between Guilin and Liuzhou. It connects eastward to the world-renowned tourist city of Guilin, borders the mysterious Qiandongnan folk tourism sanctuary to the west, neighbors the Guangxi tourism pearl Beihai to the south, and links to the Hunan landscape tourism gem Zhangjiajie to the north. National Highways 209 and 321 run through the scenic area, offering convenient transportation. Major attractions in the area include the world’s largest wind and rain bridge—the Sanjiang Wind and Rain Bridge, the extraordinary wooden structure that holds a Guinness record—the China Dong City, the tallest drum tower in Dong villages—the Sanjiang Drum Tower, the world’s largest, longest, and richest historical and cultural stele corridor of the Dong ethnic group, the Dong ethnic characteristic street—Moon Street, the gathering place of Sanjiang’s renowned odd stones, known as the “Hometown of Ornamental Stones in China”—the Sanjiang Odd Stone City, the sacred Buddhist site of ethnic minorities—the Fulu Temple, and the Sanjiang ethnic-themed leisure celebration venue—the Duoye Square, among other world-renowned and highly valuable tourist attractions.

The entire scenic area includes wooden structures such as the Dong Village Bird’s Nest, the Sanjiang Drum Tower, and the Sanjiang Wind and Rain Bridge, as well as attractions like the Dong Ethnic History and Culture Stele Corridor, Moon Street, Sanjiang Odd Stone City, and Duoye Square. Among them, the Sanjiang Drum Tower is the iconic landmark of the scenic area, featuring 27 tiers of eaves that taper elegantly upwards, resembling a wooden pyramid and leaving visitors in awe. The Sanjiang Wind and Rain Bridge combines modern reinforced concrete technology with traditional Dong wooden architecture, boasting an impressive scale and length. The Dong Village Bird’s Nest is ingeniously designed, resembling Beijing’s Bird’s Nest in wooden form, and is truly breathtaking. The nightly performance “Zuomei” (Sitting with the Girls) held here is also spectacular, using romantic love stories and vibrant ethnic dances to showcase Dong culture—it’s definitely worth seeing.

Visitors can also sample distinctive Dong ethnic cuisine, with Sanjiang oil tea and sour fish and meat being representative delicacies. Some tourists choose to stay overnight in Sanjiang to enjoy the village’s night scenery and experience the local simple and warm-hearted folk customs.
