The Sanjiang Chengyang Bajiao Scenic Area is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Chengyang Bajiao Scenic Area is located on the Linxi River in Linxi Town, Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County, 19 kilometers from the county seat of Guyi Town. It is currently the largest tourist attraction in Sanjiang County and a well-known destination for experiencing Dong ethnic culture in Guangxi.

The scenic area covers eight natural villages—Dongzhai, Pingfu, Jichang, Dazhai from Chengyang Village, and Ma’an, Pingzhai, Yanzhai, and Pingtan from Pingyan Village (historically grouped under Chengyang Village and commonly referred to as Chengyang Bajiao). The core scenic zone includes Ma’an, Pingzhai, and Yanzhai, spanning an area of 12.55 square kilometers with 2,197 households and over 9,700 residents. Legend has it that around 700 years ago, the Cheng and Yang families were the first to settle here, followed by the Yang, Wu, Chen, Li, Shi, and Huang families.

About 400 years ago, the current cluster of villages gradually took shape. The scenic area is themed around "immersive Dong ethnic life experiences" and is recognized as one of "China’s First Batch of Landscape Villages" and one of "Guangxi’s Top Ten Charming Villages." It features nine wind-rain bridges and eleven drum towers, with key attractions including Dong village landscapes, stilted houses, clusters of wind-rain bridges and drum towers, and flagstone paths. Rich in authentic Dong ethnic culture and natural resources, it is a concentrated showcase of Dong heritage and traditions.

The Chengyang Bajiao Scenic Area is famed for its "Four Wonders": the Chengyang Yongji Bridge—one of the world’s four great bridges and a hub of China’s Dong wooden architecture craftsmanship; a living museum of Dong stilted houses; and the most picturesque riverside and mountainous Dong villages. It is a key project in the western China tourism investment plan and part of the Guilin–Longsheng–Sanjiang–Rongshui–Liuzhou ethnic culture tourism golden route.

For over a decade, the Sanjiang County Government has significantly increased financial support for the scenic area, investing over 45 million yuan to upgrade infrastructure such as roads, environmental features, traffic signs, parking lots, the scenic entrance, and viewing trails. Additionally, the exteriors of buildings incongruous with the natural surroundings have been clad in wooden siding, and cultural facilities like a comprehensive cultural center and an intangible cultural heritage transmission center have been constructed to enhance the area’s tourism functions.

Visitors can admire the Dong people’s exquisite wooden architecture, vibrant ethnic songs and dances, traditional rural lifestyles, and beautiful farmland scenery. They can also experience the daily lives, labor, and leisure of the Dong people. During festivals and weddings, guests may even participate in traditional Dong celebrations.

This is an open-air scenic area and a spiritual retreat for travelers seeking relaxation, nature, and a return to simplicity. Currently, the scenic area directly employs over 200 people and indirectly supports more than 1,000 jobs. There are 25 farmstay households, over 40 craft shops, 350+ beds, and an annual tourist reception of over 100,000 visitors.

In 2007, Chengyang Bajiao was designated as one of "China’s First Batch of Landscape Villages." In 2009, it was awarded national 4A-level scenic status. In 2013, the three villages of Ma’an, Pingzhai, and Yanzhai in Pingyan Village were included in China’s tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage nomination.
