The Ancient Banyan at Chankou

The Ancient Banyan at Chankou is located in Chankou Village, Liangkou Township, adjacent to National Highway 321. It is a natural scenic tourism area that combines the sightseeing of ancient banyans and historic paths, picturesque canyon-lake views, and the ethnic culture of the Dong people. The ancient banyan grows at the confluence of the Meng River and the Duliu River. It is said to be over 1,300 years old, with a canopy covering 2,000 square meters, and is 38 meters tall. Its branches extend outward with a diameter of over 70 meters, and the trunk is twisted with roots, while the branches spread out, forming a lush canopy. Beside the tree, the river water is clear and rippling, dotted with small boats. Chankou Village is a typical Dong ethnic village, where annual events such as the Dong Grand Song competitions, lusheng (bamboo mouth organ) contests, and Dong opera performances are held.
