Pingzhai Drum Tower

Pingzhai Drum Tower — Built in the first year of the Daoguang reign during the Qing Dynasty (1821 AD). The drum tower has three bays and features a double-eaved, hanging-roof style in the central section. This represents the earliest form of Dong drum tower construction and is one of the better-preserved, older drum towers in Sanjiang. It is a county-level key cultural relic protection unit. In September 2014, Pingzhai started construction on a new drum tower. Covering an area of 169 square meters and standing approximately 25 meters tall, the tower has 17 tiers of eaves, with a total cost of about 1.5 million RMB. It is a single-pillar drum tower, two tiers taller than the Yanzhai Drum Tower built in 2006, and currently has the most eave tiers of any drum tower in the scenic area.
