Danzhou Island

Danzhou Island is a midstream islet in the Rong River and an administrative village under Danzhou Town, Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County, Guangxi. Located upstream of the Liu River, it lies 55 km north of Sanjiang County and 140 km south of Liuzhou. The island is home to the ancient Danzhou Town, built during the Ming Dynasty's Wanli era, which once served as the seat of the ancient Huaiyuan County. Covering an area of 1.6 square kilometers, the Rong River branches and flows around the island, making it resemble a ship anchored in the surging river. The island is inhabited by 230 households from five ethnic groups—Miao, Yao, Dong, Zhuang, and Han—with a population of over 1,000. Surrounded by green mountains and crisscrossed by clear streams, the island enjoys fresh air and stunning natural scenery. Historical relics such as ancient town structures, academies, and guildhalls are scattered across the island, exuding rich historical and cultural charm. The local residences feature simple architecture, and the residents are known for their hospitality and unspoiled rural lifestyle. It has become an ideal destination for eco-leisure tourism, attracting many travelers seeking tranquility and nature.
