Fossil of an Eastern Sword-Toothed Elephant Tusk
In the autumn of 1980, a convex fossil of an Eastern Sword-Toothed Elephant tusk was discovered in a cave being explored on the mountainside of Hongri Ridge on the outskirts of Lengshuijiang City. It measures 18 cm in length, 8 cm in width, and 4 cm in thickness. After being sent to the Provincial Archaeological Research Institute for analysis, it was determined to likely date back several hundred thousand years to the Middle Pleistocene epoch of the Quaternary period.
In March 1986, based on clues provided by villagers, multiple fossils of Eastern Sword-Toothed Elephant tusks were discovered in the Hongri Ridge area.
