To allow the public to admire the graceful beauty of the swaying silvergrass and to experience the historical and cultural heritage of the ancient trails, Yangmingshan National Park has made the “Autumn Silvergrass Ancient Trail Hike” its featured interpretive hiking event for autumn in recent years. The activity will soon make its grand debut. The event takes place along the historically significant Yulu Ancient Trail (also known as the Jinkoubi Road)—a vital passage used by ancestors during the late Qing and early Republican periods to travel between Jinshan and Shilin. The hike begins at the Shanghuangxi Parking Lot beside the Yangjin Highway, following the Yulu Ancient Trail to Qingshuiyang and then to Qingshuiting. Through guided explanations by volunteer interpreters, participants will learn about the human history and relics along the Yulu Ancient Trail, while also enjoying the ecological scenery lined with silvergrass, ferns, and umbrella trees. In addition to appreciating the hardships of life in earlier times, the activity also aims to enhance environmental protection awareness through closer connection with nature.
