Hongshan Square

Hongshan Square is located in the Shuiguohu area of Wuchang, where the provincial Party committee and government are situated. It is a commemorative square built to honor the 105th birth anniversary of a veteran revolutionary leader. Jointly invested in by the provincial and municipal governments in March 1990, the square was completed and opened to the public on September 26, 1992. It is a public welfare enterprise under the Wuhan Gardening Bureau.

In December 1999, the Wuhan Municipal Government decided to renovate Hongshan Square in order to improve the urban environment and enhance city functions. The renovated square was completed and opened on September 28, 2000. The newly reconstructed square features an underground passage connecting Zhongnan Road and Zhongbei Road, as well as connectivity between the east and west plazas, covering a total area of 108,000 square meters. At that time, it was the largest fully open large-scale urban cultural square in Central China, integrating leisure, entertainment, commemoration, and more.

The central square is divided from east to west into three major scenic areas: the Memorial Square, the Central Sunken Plaza, and the Musical Fountain Plaza.

The square can be reached by bus or taxi within the Wuhan urban area.
