Zhijiang Jinhu National Wetland Park

Zhijiang Jinhu National Wetland Park is a national-level wetland park.

Jinhu Wetland Park, located in Zhijiang, Yichang, is another wetland park in Yichang’s forest tourism offerings. The Jinhu Leisure Resort Scenic Area is divided into five zones: water recreation, wetland conservation, leisure vacation, commercial culture, and religious culture. The total planned area is 733.35 hectares, including a water surface area of 7,500 mu, a forest area of 330 mu, a wetland area of 688.57 hectares, and a wetland ratio of 93.89%. The park boasts rich biodiversity and beautiful natural landscapes. It is an important habitat for waterfowl and is known as the “Kidney of Zhijiang City.”

On January 10, 2015, Jinhu Wetland Park was approved as a national wetland park by the State Forestry Administration.

Jinhu National Wetland Park is situated on the northeastern side of Zhijiang City, at the transitional zone between the mountainous region of western Hubei and the Jianghan Plain. The main body of the park is teardrop-shaped and represents a typical natural freshwater lake in the low-lying areas of the Jianghan Plain. The planning and design of Jinhu Wetland Park follow the principles of “protection first, scientific restoration, rational use, and sustainable development.” The wetland park spans from Donghu Control Sluice in the east to Siqing Bridge in the west, and from Linjia’ao in the south to Jinshan Forest Farm in the north. It consists of three parts: Donghu Lake, Liujiahu Lake, and Jinshan Forest Farm.

The planned construction period for Jinhu Wetland Park is seven years, to be developed in three phases, with a total investment of 220 million yuan. This will significantly enhance the self-sustaining and restorative capacity of the wetland ecosystem in Zhijiang City, play an active role in protecting biodiversity, and also improve flood storage capacity. Ultimately, it will be developed into the backyard garden of Zhijiang urban area, providing people with a comfortable, tranquil place for harmonious coexistence with nature, leisure, vacation, and spiritual rejuvenation.
