Jinshan Junya is a newly created famous tea in Jiangsu Province. This tea is made from high-quality DaHao and DaBai tea buds, carefully selected and meticulously processed. It boasts excellent quality, a fine balance of color, aroma, and taste, a unique style, a sweet aftertaste, long-lasting fragrance, and a refreshing flavor. When brewed, the tea leaves either float on the water’s surface or stand upright at the bottom of the cup, resembling emerald green bamboo shoots, offering outstanding visual and tasting experiences. Trial production began in 1982 at the Xiashu Tea Farm and Wuzhou Tea Farm in Zhenjiang, and in 1985, it passed technical evaluation and was listed as a provincial-level famous tea. In the same year, it was awarded the title of National Famous Tea at the National Famous Teas Evaluation Conference held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. “Jinshan Junya” Green Tea is made from the buds and leaves of clonal tea tree varieties such as DaHao and Fuyun No. 6, using refined tea-making techniques.
The quality characteristics of Jinshan Junya include a flat, straight, even appearance with a vibrant green color and visible buds, a tender aroma, a fresh and mellow taste, a bright light green liquor, and fat, tender, bright green leaves. When brewed, the tea leaves slowly sink and stand upright in the cup, resembling the reflection of Zhenjiang’s Jinshan Pagoda in the Yangtze River. Its flavor is rich and leaves a lingering aftertaste. Visually, it resembles “Zhuyeqing” tea, which is also a bud tea with a flat, straight shape, although “Zhuyeqing” is flatter. The dry tea has a yellowish-green hue with visible buds and a strong fragrance—rarely seen in green teas—and a uniquely aromatic profile. After brewing, the tea leaves stand densely like flags and spears, with the liquor being light yellow-green and bright. The taste is rich, fresh, and mellow, with noticeable bitterness that gives way to a sweet and mouthwatering finish. The aroma does not linger strongly at the bottom of the cup, but the leaves are fat, even, and bright green, extremely beautiful. In short, two words sum it up: “absolutely satisfying.”
At the 6th National “China Tea Cup” competition, “Jinshan Junya” tea produced by the Xiashu Tea Farm in Zhenjiang won first place overall. It has also received numerous honors, including the Gold Award at the First China International Food Expo, Gold Awards at the First and Second Agricultural Expos, and the Gold Award at the International Famous Teas Evaluation Conference. In 1998, it was auctioned for as high as 16,000 yuan per kilogram, setting a record-high price for Chinese tea at the time.
