Endless Well

The Endless Well is a cultural heritage site protected by Yichang City.

Endless Well (Song Dynasty), located on Lingjiang Street within the campus of Baiyang Middle School in Baiyang Town, Zhijiang City. It was included in the sixth batch of cultural heritage protection units of Yichang in 2018.

Baiyang Town: Baiyang Town is situated in the western part of Zhijiang City, bordering Dongshi to the east, facing Lucheng Town in Yidu across the river to the south, and connecting to downtown Yichang to the west. Baiyang is a millennia-old town located along the waterways at the junction of the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River.

Archaeologists have unearthed brachiopod shell fossils dating back approximately 500 million years from the gravel at the hilltop of Liuyan Dayanwan in Baiyang, proving that during the early Cambrian period, Baiyang was part of a marine transgression zone inhabited by Atlantic fauna. Stone tools such as pointed implements found in Zhaojiapu and stone axes discovered in Shancichong indicate that human activity existed here as far back as the Paleolithic Age...
