The Duan Family Residence is a cultural relic protection unit of Hubei Province.

The Duan Family Residence

Located 420 meters south of Lingzhiyuan Village, Mayuan Township, Yingshan County, it was the residence and estate of Duan Zhaozhuo, a candidate magistrate. Construction began in the 24th year of the Guangxu reign (1898) and continued in phases. The building faces south, spans 14,000 square meters, and follows a symmetrical central-axis layout with three sections and two-courtyard compounds. Each section has a gate hall, front hall, rear hall, and left and right wing rooms. The total width is nine bays (47.25 meters), and the depth is 36.27 meters. The main structures feature single-eave, flush-gable roofs covered with gray tiles, and are built with a brick-and-timber structure. The wooden framework is a variation of the chuandou style, with caisson beam frames. Most ceilings adopt the lingjiao xuan (diamond-patterned) style. Stone elements are mostly made of white marble. The gable decorations feature long dragons, and the chiseled forehead stones are richly varied. Under the eaves are brick-built bracket sets and colorful paintings depicting flowers, birds, figures, and stories. (Third Batch)
