Beizhao Mosque

Beizhao Mosque is a cultural tourism attraction.

Legend has it that Beizhao in Yongqing County was where Prince Yan recruited soldiers and horses while campaigning northward. The mosque was first built during the Ming Dynasty but was flooded by the Yongding River in 1819. It was rebuilt in 1909. Tian Yuxin (known as Tian Wubaba), a Hui resident of the village who ran the “Sanyuan Store” and “Binle Store” in the capital city, raised substantial funds and materials from both the public and the authorities to build the mosque.

The construction of the mosque took three years and covers an area of three mu. Upon completion, Tian Wubaba invited a golden plaque inscribed with an imperial edict from the capital, which was hung on the center of the north wall inside the prayer hall. Golden plaques on both sides were gifts from notable individuals. The mosque currently houses an ancient white marble incense burner stand with a diameter of one meter, and two white marble lions are still preserved at the entrance.
