The fertile farmland stretches out, and a few miles to the west, along the northern bank of the Zi River, lies a mountain that resembles a hidden golden ox nestled among peaks—hence the name Jinniu Mountain. The pavilions and towers on the mountain are mostly built along cliffs and precipices, peeking through lush pines and cypresses. Ascending the stone steps, you’ll find connected caves such as the White Cloud Cave and the Soaring Sky Cave. Climb the cliffside cloud path to reach the “Dragon-Calling Gate,” where clapping produces echoing sounds like temple bells. At the mountaintop lies a colorful stone wall, beneath which is a deep pool. After summer rains, the pool emits clouds and mist that drift through the forest paths—this is the famously named “Mist-Spouting Pool.”
