Wuyang Lake Ecotourism Area

Wuyang Lake Ecotourism Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction, a national water conservancy scenic area, and a national wetland park.

The Wuyang Lake Water Conservancy Scenic Area is located in Boshan District, known as the Hometown of Filial Piety in China, a national key scenic spot, and a renowned city for ceramics, pumps, Shandong cuisine, and colored glaze. It borders the urban area to the north and neighbors Yiyuan and Laiwu to the south. Covering an area of 54 square kilometers with a water surface of 3 square kilometers, it is a reservoir-type water conservancy scenic area.

The water conservancy projects in the area are grand in scale. The magnificent dam, spectacular spillway and traffic bridge, delicate bridgeheads, and the surrounding white marble railings, the newly built office building, and the LujiaTai traffic bridge spanning the lake area—all of these projects present stunning scenery. In recent years, the district government has undertaken efforts to enhance and restore the environment around Wuyang Lake, establishing a 5,000-mu organic agricultural sightseeing garden; constructing a 400-mu wetland aquatic plant germplasm resource base north of the lake; planning to develop a wetland park downstream of Wuyang Lake; and investing 150 million yuan north of the lakeshore to build Shima Ten-Thousand-Mu Garden Nursery Base, the largest seedling base north of the Yangtze River. These initiatives allow visitors to fully enjoy the endless fun of water recreation, rural leisure, mountain sports, and eco-resort experiences. To the northeast of Wuyang Lake lies Shima Spring, where Xiaofu Yan Wenjiang once fetched water. The scenic area also includes Wuyang Mountain and the nearby Jinniu Mountain, both part of the “Eight Scenic Spots of Boshan District.” Wuyun Cave, Wufeng Mountain, Phoenix Mountain, and Xiangquan Valley complement each other, forming a beautiful tapestry of natural, ecological, and cultural landscapes. In recent years, visitor numbers have been steadily increasing. With its rich historical and cultural heritage and abundant eco-tourism resources, Wuyang Lake Water Conservancy Scenic Area has become a rare water conservancy landmark, ecological destination, and cultural sanctuary in central Shandong.

Approved as the 11th batch of National Water Conservancy Scenic Areas in 2011.
