The Heishan Scenic Area is located within Badu Town, nine kilometers southeast of Boshan City, with its main peak, Tieshanzhai, standing at an altitude of 501 meters. To the east, Heishan connects with Yueyang Mountain, and to the west with Yuwang Mountain. According to the "Boshan County Annals": “Heishan, with its black-hued rocks that can be forged into iron—yielding two dou of iron per stone—and abundant coal resources, hence the name.” Heishan is rich in coal and silicate ores, becoming the birthplace of Boshan’s modern industrial civilization and also the mother mountain of the people of Badu. The entire Heishan area spans 5,700 mu, including 3,400 mu in East Heishan—of which 700 mu belong to the Heishan Forest Farm—and 2,300 mu in West Heishan. The forest coverage rate reaches 88%. The main tree species currently include pagoda trees, pines, willows, cherry trees, and more than ten other varieties. The area is home to over ten resident bird species such as pheasants and azure-winged magpies, as well as nearly ten mammal species including hares and badgers.

The Eight Scenic Spots of Heishan are celebrated in a locally sung seven-character poem: “On Bright Soldiers’ Platform, view the eight sights; At Pixu Tower, gather the elite. First sight: geese parting in slanted flight; Outside Tieshanzhai, fame takes flight. Willow Tree Well reflects beauties’ grace; Dragon-Connecting Spring shows its grace. Laugh as the Stone Forest hides visitors in play; Gaze up where the Eagle’s Beak touches the Milky Way.” This is a vivid depiction of Heishan’s eight scenic wonders.

Fenyan Stone, also known as Muyu Stone, is the foremost of the Yan Shen Eight Scenic Spots. This attraction features a massive rock that is neither square nor round, about six zhang wide and two zhang high, located approximately one hundred meters northeast of Heishan’s main peak. Legend has it that standing before the rock on cloudy afternoons gives one the sensation of being sprinkled with evening rain; another tale says that as dusk falls, one can hear the sound of falling rain from within the stone. It is also said that when flocks of wild geese fly over Fenyan Stone, their formation becomes disordered, only resuming after circling the rock. Truly, Fenyan Stone is a marvel among China’s wondrous stones.

Guide Service Fees: Guide services are available at all minor scenic spots. Fees are 100 RMB for groups of five or fewer, and 200 RMB for groups of more than five.

Visitor Service Center: The visitor service center is currently under expansion and is located in front of the mountain gate. It is a comprehensive service facility integrating tour guide services, promotional information, consultation and complaints, leisure, and shopping.

Badu Town: Badu Town is located 15 kilometers southeast of Boshan District, Zibo City. It is a key industrial town on the outskirts of Boshan and an important transportation hub. It is also one of the top 100 towns in Shandong Province, ranking 16th in overall economic strength in 2005. The town administers 17 administrative villages and 22 neighborhood committees, covering a total area of 36.94 square kilometers with a population of 41,000. It has been awarded honors such as National Export Base Town, Provincial Civilized Town, Provincial Advanced Town in Safety Creation, Municipal Economically Strong Town, Municipal Star Town for Township Enterprise Development, and Municipal "Five-Good" Township Party Committee.
