Emei Mountain Park

Emei Mountain Park is located in the southern part of Chengdong Subdistrict Office, with an elevation of 281 meters. It runs from east to west and got its name because its shape curves like an eyebrow. The 26th year of the Republic of China (1937) edition of the Continuation of the Boshan County Annals records: “Eling, located south of the county town. The mountain is gracefully curved like an eyebrow, also known as Emei Mountain.” Since ancient times, it has been praised in the poem “Amid the clear mist on Emei Ridge, crows cry in disarray” and is recognized as one of the old Eight Scenic Spots of Boshan. It faces Jing Mountain across Qiugu Valley and Fan River to the east, looks toward Phoenix Mountain across Xiaofu River to the west, borders Shentou to the south, and its gentle northern foothills extend all the way to the banks of the Xiaofu River.

The southern slope of Emei Mountain is steep, while the northern slope is densely populated with numerous historical sites and scenic spots. From west to east, there used to be: ancient cliff cave sites from the Song Dynasty at Nan Gezi in Dajie Street, the former residence of Sun Tingquan and Bao'en Temple in the middle section of Dajie Street, the Confucius Temple on Xianqian Street, the former residence of Zhao Zhixin on Maxing Street along with Longquan Temple and the Examination Hall, as well as a swimming and entertainment city covering over 10 acres and a hexagonal pavilion, making it a great place for people to escape the summer heat. At the foot of the mountain, the wide central road runs east–west through the urban area, along with three neighborhood parks built successively: Qiyuan, Mingyuan, and Chengyuan. On the western slope, there stands a monument commemorating the “Boshan Water Diversion Project.”
