Zhemenyu Scenic Area

Zhemenyu Scenic Area is located nine kilometers west of Shimen, the former seat of the Shimen Township government in Boshan District. Nestled deep in the mountains, the village borders Zichuan District to the north and Zhangqiu City to the west, and was established during the Hongwu era of the Ming Dynasty. The "Dragon Gate Heavenly Pool," also known as the Zhemenyu Reservoir, was completed in 1988. The 1776 Gazetteer of Zichuan County from the 41st year of the Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty records the village name as "Zhenmenyu." It is said that the area was named "Zhenmenyu" (Hazel Valley) because it served as the gateway from the plains of Zhangqiu into the eastern mountainous region and was overgrown with hazel trees in ancient times. Later, the name evolved into "Zhemenyu" (Town Gate Valley). This is a great destination for leisure and tourism all year round. In summer, the abundant water flow creates roaring waterfalls, making it an ideal spot to escape the heat.
