It enjoys the reputation of being a Shangri-La, thanks to its "majestic, precipitous, spectacular, and serene" natural landscapes and ancient historical relics.
Breathtaking Mountains and Waters of Yesanpo: Yesanpo lies at the convergence of two major mountain ranges in northern China. The mighty Taihang Mountain stretches southward here along the borders of Hebei, Shanxi, and Henan, while the towering Yanshan Mountain extends eastward through Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei.
Within this naturally formed 600-square-kilometer area, there is a wealth of geological relics, the ceaseless flow of the Juma River, pristine ecological surroundings, and rare, precious historical relics. It encapsulates the essence of the Taihang Mountains and the splendor of the Yanshan Mountains, gathering the divine beauty of the Five Great Mountains, showcasing 1.4 billion years of geological evolution, and carrying forward China’s ancient civilization. It is a unique natural scenic area that combines majestic mountains, emerald waters, spring blossoms, autumn foliage, waterfalls, glaciers, spectacular gorges, peculiar springs, cliff inscriptions, ancient Great Wall fortresses, famed trees and ancient temples, alpine meadows, and sky gardens.
Epitome of North China’s Geological History: Yesanpo sits atop the northern end of the Zijinguan Deep Fault Zone. Multiple intense tectonic movements and magmatic activities have left behind a series of grand historical landscapes. The majestic, precipitous, mystical, and serene Hundred Valley Fault-Erosion Barrier Canyon, the awe-inspiring and towering Longmen Tianguan Granite Fault Structure, and the unfathomable Fodong Cave Tower–Yugu Cave Structural Karst Cave Spring all reflect its rich, diverse, typical, and unique geological features. These elements create its towering cliffs that seem to pierce the sky, perilous cliffs wedged between valleys, grotesque rocks in myriad forms, and serene, winding paths where the scenery changes at every turn.
The geological relics of Yesanpo are typical, rare, and systematic, making it a prime representation of the North China intraplate orogenic belt. In addition, Yesanpo contains complete geological structures, with clear unconformity surfaces, a full range of intrusive, volcanic, sedimentary, and metamorphic rock formations, and exceptionally well-developed structural features such as joints, faults, and folds. The area also features diverse landforms including mountain planation surfaces and river terraces. It serves as a vivid geological textbook and a natural geological museum, encapsulating 3 billion years of geological evolution in North China. It is an ideal research site for experts studying global tectonics and intraplate orogenic belts, a perfect destination for student fieldwork, and a dynamic classroom for science education.
Nature’s Beloved Masterpiece: Yesanpo encompasses seven major scenic areas and 108 attractions. Some feature towering peaks that seem to touch the heavens; others boast vast expanses of lush greenery with murmuring springs; some present rugged cliffs standing as natural screens; while others display verdant, steep, and enchantingly continuous landscapes.
