Sishui watermelon is grown in Sishui County, Shandong Province. Known as the "Hometown of Watermelons," Sishui County produces large, sweet watermelons with sugar content exceeding 12 degrees. The fruit is crisp, with newly ripened flesh that is crystal clear, melts in the mouth, and is uniformly sized.   Greenhouse watermelons

The watermelon planting area in Sishui covers 210,000 mu, including 30,000 mu under greenhouses, and 180,000 mu in medium and small arch sheds. The main varieties include Jingxin series, Yuyi series, Midu, Anye 961, Huacui No. 6, Heimibao, and seedless watermelons, offering a complete range of high-quality types. Sishui County’s watermelons have been gradually entering the market since late April, with sales peaking in May and June. Approximately 300,000 tons of watermelons are available for sale, and about 100,000 tons will be marketed in early July.

The Sishui watermelon base is located in Sishui County, adjacent to Qufu, the ancient and culturally rich city where Confucius lived. In April 2006, it was designated as an ecological demonstration county. About 30 kilometers east of Qufu and the Confucius Mansion, the area enjoys convenient transportation with national highway 327, the Rizhao–Dongying Expressway, and the Rizhao–Heze Railway running east-west. The base has established long-term and stable technical cooperation with research institutions such as the Shandong Academy of Agricultural Sciences and the Luqing Horticultural Research Institute. Techniques such as root replacement, balanced fertilization, and integrated pest management are promoted, along with the use of high-yield, premium new varieties. Most notably, the implementation of pollution-free cultivation ensures safe consumption. Currently, watermelon production has become a distinctive pillar industry in Sishui, making the county a nationally renowned hub for watermelon production. The local melon and vegetable market enjoys a very favorable environment, with the government prioritizing the peace of mind of both growers and traders. In 2008, Sishui watermelons were selected as Olympic watermelons, guaranteed to be 100% ripe. Surrounded by mountains and water, Sishui benefits from fertile soil, and some watermelons are irrigated with mountain spring water, resulting in even better flavor. From May to September each year, a large volume of watermelons are harvested and, through the county’s watermelon association, are distributed to regions such as Beijing, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, and the northeast.   Watermelon
