Yesanpo Ethnic Park Resort

The predecessor of Ethnic Park was Yesanpo Resort. It opened to the public in 1986 to receive tourists. In response to a proposal by 22 ethnic minority members of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference to build 56 ethnic villages around Beijing, the largest ethnic village in northern China—the Miao Village—was constructed in the resort in 1992. In 1995, it underwent an upgrade and transformation, evolving into an ethnic cultural village integrating dining, accommodation, transportation, sightseeing, shopping, and entertainment. To enrich ethnic culture, the tourism group company also renovated the Dong Village and Mosuo Village, and newly built the Lisu Village, Derung Village, and Aini Village, forming six ethnic minority villages that make up the “Ethnic Park.”

The Miao residences in the resort were built based on traditional Miao homes in Guizhou. Their stilted houses are characterized by roof corners that are not on the same horizontal plane, creating an artistic effect of varied heights and a mix of solid and void. The architectural highlight of the residence is the “beauty’s railing” set on the spacious and bright corridor on the second floor. The beauty’s railing is where Miao girls do needlework and dress up. It is said that leaning on the beauty’s railing will make one increasingly youthful and beautiful.

During performance hours, Miao girls appear in festive costumes, featuring thrilling acts such as “Climbing the Blade Ladder” and “Walking on Fire.” There are three performances daily—in the morning, afternoon, and evening (09:00–10:00, 16:00–17:00, 21:00–22:00), especially the grand ethnic gala in the evening, where each ethnic group showcases their “special skills” on stage, accompanied by advanced lighting and sound equipment that are sure to feast your eyes.
