The Site of Zhangnan Town

It was once the site of Zhangnan County during the Sui and Tang dynasties, also known as the Pointing-General Platform Site. It was where Dou Jiande and Liu Heita, leaders of the peasant uprising at the end of the Sui Dynasty, raised their armies. On the south side of the site, there used to be an earthen platform approximately 70 meters long from east to west, 30 meters wide from north to south, and over 4 meters high. Legend has it that this was the platform used for raising armies, training troops, and holding oaths. It is listed as one of the county’s Eight Scenic Spots, namely “Moonlit Night at Zhangnan.” In May 2006, during the dredging of a pond in the southern part of the village, more than 10 cultural relics were unearthed, including stone tablets, Buddhist pagodas, stone carvings, and horse-tying posts. Provincial archaeological experts identified these as remains of a temple from the Tang Dynasty. It is a county-level cultural relic protection unit in Wucheng County.
