Foguang Temple

Located in Zone A of Sinvsi Scenic Area, Foguang Temple was built during the Ming Dynasty. Originally named Shifo Temple, it is said to have been constructed by the eminent monk Zhantan. At its peak, it had eighty-one halls and pavilions. When Emperor Qianlong traveled to the south of the Yangtze River, he made a special trip here to offer incense and worship the Buddha, praising it as “a truly auspicious and serene place!” From then on, Shifo Temple was renamed Foguang Temple. In the 1950s, the ancient structures of Xiaonv Shrine and Foguang Temple were demolished to widen the canal. Reconstruction of the Mahavira Hall, Heavenly King Hall, Baoguang Sacred Pagoda, Bodhi Courtyard, and Abbot’s Courtyard began in 2010.
