Jinan Wufeng Mountain Tourist Area
Jinan Wufeng Mountain Tourist Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.
The Wufengshan Provincial Forest Park was established in January 1993 by the Shandong Provincial Forestry Department on the basis of the former state-owned Wufengshan Forest Farm. The Wufengshan Forest Park encompasses most of the inner and outer eight scenic spots of the Wufengshan Scenic Area, and has added leisure and entertainment venues such as a forest bathing ground, allowing visitors to relax and rejuvenate both physically and mentally through close contact with nature. Currently, large-scale cultural projects such as the China Zhouyi Cultural Park, the Qilu Stele Forest, and a golf course are under construction and will soon add new landscapes and recreational spaces for visitors to the Wufengshan Park.
The Forest Bathing Ground is located deep within the Wufengshan Forest Park, bordered by Baihu Valley to the south, Qinglong Valley to the north, Daofo Mountain above, and overlooking Dongzhen Temple below. Here, lush green mountains rise one after another, with towering trees, flat valleys and steep cliffs, and shade covering the ground. There are also winding mountain roads that connect every corner—not only allowing direct ascents from the valley floor to the mountaintop, but also linking different valleys and gullies. The surrounding 6.7 million square meters of forest create a unique microclimate in the area. Measurements show that summer temperatures here are 5 degrees Celsius lower than outside, and the negatively charged oxygen ions, which are easily absorbed by the human body, are 2.5 times more abundant. The bathing ground covers an area of 126,700 square meters and blends seamlessly with its surroundings. It is enclosed by cypress hedge walls and features three main gates to the north, south, and west, along with 200 square meters of prefabricated activity cabins and 41 tents of various sizes, all naturally and harmoniously nestled within the dense mountain forests. Facilities inside include a multi-functional conference hall, restaurant, guest rooms, and a mountain spring bathhouse. Other recreational amenities such as the Taiji Cave, Taiji Diagram, Moon Viewing Platform, open-air dance floor, and shooting range make this a fully natural tourist destination that combines accommodation and entertainment.
Known as the “Fairyland of Qilu,” Wufeng Mountain is located 22 kilometers southwest of Jinan City, bordering Mount Tai and Qufu to the south and overlooking the Yellow River to the west. National Highway 104, the Beijing-Fuzhou Expressway, and the Beijing-Shanghai Railway are all connected to Wufeng Mountain, making transportation very convenient. The Wufeng Mountain Tourist Resort is a hygiene advanced unit in Shandong Province and a civilized unit in Jinan City, covering an area of 4.4 square kilometers. In 1996, it was approved by the provincial government as a provincial-level tourist resort.
Wufeng Mountain is an extension of Mount Tai and, together with Mount Tai and Lingyan Mountain, is known as one of the “Three Mountains of Central Shandong.” The development of Wufeng Mountain began in the Tai period, flourishing most during the Ming Dynasty. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Buddhism thrived here, and hundreds of Buddha statues in the Lotus Cave remain well-preserved to this day, with a history of over 1,400 years. During the Jin and Yuan Dynasties, Taoism flourished here, with Taoist temples covering 139 hectares in a grand scale, making it one of the largest Taoist sacred sites in northern ancient China.
Wufeng Mountain is famous for its five elegant peaks standing side by side amidst the blue clouds, namely, from west to east: Yingxian Peak, Wangxian Peak, Huixian Peak, Zhixian Peak, and Qunxian Peak. These five immortal peaks are perennially embraced by lush green trees, with palaces, temples, pavilions, and terraces complementing each other, creating breathtaking scenery. Wufeng Mountain boasts both inner and outer eight scenic spots. The inner eight include Qixing Spring, Yingxian Bridge, Gengji Bridge, Wuying Temple, Immortal Platform, Qinglong Valley, Baihu Valley, and Qingling Spring; while the outer eight consist of Qingya He Cui (Emerald Green Cliffs), Runyu Qifeng (Jade-Like Seven Peaks), Mingquan Zaobao (Early Morning Light on Clear Springs), Fengshan YanYu (Phoenix Mountain Misty Rain), Gunsu Zhaoxia (Dawn Glow over Rolling Millet), Yutai Diaoyue (Fishing for the Moon at Fish Terrace), Xingtai Chunxiao (Spring Dawn at Apricot Dike), and Xueling Muqiao (Herding and Firewood at Xueling Ridge). Each scene shines brilliantly, evoking emotion everywhere. The beautiful natural landscape and long-standing historical culture blend seamlessly together.
The charm of Wufeng Mountain Fairyland lies in its beauty, serenity, wonder, and antiquity.
Beauty: Wufeng Mountain is home to springs. Famous ones include Qingling Spring, Qixian Spring, Qixing Spring, Qinglong Spring, Baihu Spring, Runyu Spring, and Lu Spring. The spring water is pure, leaves no residue when boiled, and is cool, clear, and sweet.
Serenity: Wufeng Mountain has caves. Among them, Anlexuan, Lotus Cave, Queen Mother Cave, Chongxuan Cave, and Yinxian Cave—nestled among lush pines and cypresses on the mountainside and at the foot of the mountain—are the epitome of serenity.
Wonder: Wufeng Mountain has rocks. The extraordinary craftsmanship of nature has created the mountain’s peculiar peaks and oddly shaped stones, along with wondrous mountains, trees, and bridges.
Antiquity: Wufeng Mountain has ancient origins and historic Taoist temples. The temples are divided into southern and northern sections: the southern temple is called Xuandu Temple, which served as the ancestral temple of the Ming Prince of Virtue; the northern temple is called Dongzhen Temple, where palaces, halls, pavilions, and chambers are mainly concentrated. Historically, the Taoist temples of Wufeng Mountain were conferred imperial recognition four times.
Major ruins at Wufeng Mountain include the Imperial Palace Gate Archway, Wu Chao Gate, Sanqing Hall, Jade Emperor Hall, Bixia Palace, Zhenwu Hall, Longshou Palace Stone Archway, Sanyuan Hall, Chaoyang Cave, Qingdi Palace, Qingling Pavilion, Hundred-Zhang Stone Steps, Stele Forest, as well as remnants of the peasant uprising at Daofo Mountain such as the fortress gate, fortress walls, horse path, general platform, northern and southern parade grounds, north and south drawbridges, and 262 semi-subterranean barracks.
