On the evening of August 11, a man sought help at Wand Police Station, claiming he had hiked from Beijing to Changqing and, due to exhaustion, asked the police to help him find a place to stay for the night. The duty officers learned through questioning that the man seeking help was named Li Changbo, a native of Jiangyuan County, Jilin Province. He had previously worked at the Jiangyuan County Health Bureau but quit his job in 2003. He set out on foot from his hometown of Jiangyuan County, planning to hike through all 2,400 counties in China. That day, he had walked along National Highway 104 to Wand Town. It was already late, and he had run out of money. With no other options, he had no choice but to ask the police to help him find a place to stay.
