Liantai Mountain Scenic Area

Liantai Mountain Scenic Area is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Commonly known as Xiaolouyu, Liantai Mountain features undulating peaks that encircle the area like a natural barrier, deep valleys covered in dense forests, and numerous fascinating caves.

The beauty of Liantai Mountain lies in the elegance of its woodlands, while its charm is found in the wonder of its caves. Nestled among lush pines and cypresses, there are as many as seventy-two ancient caves that are serene and profound. Notable caves include Loujing Cave, Wangmu Cave, Chaoyang Cave, Laojun Cave, Sanqing Cave, Bagua Cave, Xiangu Cave, Qinglong Cave… Some caves feature inner chambers, caves above caves, mountains hidden within caves, and caves within mountains—deep, mysterious, and perfect for exploration.

Liantai Mountain is also known as the “No. 1 Natural Botanical Garden in Northern China,” with a forest coverage rate of over 80%. It is home to more than 30 types of trees under national second- and third-class protection, as well as over 30 species of birds. From a high vantage point, the swaying tree waves resemble ocean waves; strolling through the woods, the fresh air invigorates the spirit, creating a fairy-tale-like experience, hence its reputation as a natural oxygen bar.

The Liantai Mountain Resort now includes facilities such as Liantai Villa, Liantai Hotel, Liantai Villas, and a recreation center, capable of accommodating 200 guests for food and lodging. It offers a 200-person conference room, multi-function hall, VIP rooms, and more. Recreational amenities include bowling, indoor swimming pool, beauty salon, gym, chess and card rooms, table tennis room, billiards room, and dance hall. Outdoor facilities comprise tennis courts, basketball courts, and a fishing center, making it an ideal destination for sightseeing, leisure vacations, and conferences or training.

“Liantai Mountain” is located in Zhangxia Town, Changqing District, Jinan City, adjacent to two major transportation arteries: the Beijing-Shanghai Railway and National Highway 104. To the south, it neighbors “Lingyan Temple,” the foremost of China’s Four Great Buddhist Temples; to the west, it faces “Wufeng Mountain,” a renowned Taoist site; and to the north, it is just 25 kilometers from Jinan, enjoying exceptional geographical advantages. The overall planned construction area of the Liantai Mountain Resort is 14,000 square meters, covering 27.2 acres of mountain land, with a total investment of about 50 million yuan. The architectural design combines villa-style and connected structures in a modern style. The resort consists of four parts: “Liantai Villa,” “Liantai Hotel,” “Recreation Center,” and supporting infrastructure projects.

Liantai Mountain boasts uniquely beautiful scenery, with peaks encircling the area like a city wall, resembling a lotus pedestal—hence its name. Known as the “No. 1 Natural Botanical Garden in Northern China,” it has a forest coverage rate of over 80%, with a canopy density of over 90%, and is home to over 100 tree species across 33 families, as well as 8 species of birds under national second-class protection. The Liantai Mountain Scenic Area not only has fertile and deep soil and a balanced ecosystem, but also enjoys exceptionally superior natural landscapes, often referred to since ancient times as a paradise on earth. Liantai Mountain is famed for its abundance of ancient caves, including seventy-two caves of various sizes represented by Loujing Cave, Chaoyang Cave, and Tai Shang Laojun Cave, each with beautiful and magical legends. It has also been a Taoist sacred site from the Song and Yuan dynasties up to the early liberation period. According to Yuan Dynasty inscriptions, the Han Dynasty general Zhang Liang and Loujing once lived in seclusion here. The restored “Zhangxian Shrine,” along with surviving ancient sites such as the original “Sanyuan Palace,” “Lüzu Shrine,” and “Dongxu Guan,” are cultural relics of the area. Over the centuries, despite the rise and fall of Taoism, few cultural relics remain. However, Liantai Mountain still attracts numerous tourists and researchers with its unique scenery and pleasant climate all year round, making it a true treasure for leisure vacations.

Vines climb the entrance, and the interior is dark and rugged, requiring artificial lighting to view the cave’s features. The cave walls feature colorful stalactites resembling lotuses and lingzhi mushrooms, smooth as jade and draped like canopies. At the southeastern exit, there is a stone-carved shrine enshrining statues of Loujing, Fan Li, and Zhang Liang. The offering table in front of the statues is inscribed with “Made in the Fourth Year of the Taihe Era of the Great Jin,” believed to be the spot where Zhang Liang and Loujing played chess.
