Wangquan Cliff Carvings

The Wangquan Cliff Carvings are a cultural relic protection unit of Shandong Province.

The Wangquan Cliff Carvings are located in a valley southeast of Wangquan Village, Zhangxia Town, on the northwest foothills of Mount Tai. They were carved separately on the southern and northern mountainsides, all slightly modified from natural caves. The main Buddha in Chaoyang Cave stands 1.07 meters tall, while the statues of Kasyapa and Ananda are 0.54 meters high. There are 53 Buddha statues in small niches. The back cave houses Bodhisattva statues and features carvings of animals and warriors, dating back to the Sui and Tang dynasties. These carvings are relatively well preserved.

On October 10, 2013, the Wangquan Cliff Carvings were designated as part of the fourth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units by the People’s Government of Shandong Province.
