Anyi Wenfeng Pagoda

Wenfeng Pagoda is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

Wenfeng Pagoda, originally called Longwen Pagoda, is situated about 110 meters east of Anyi Bridge on the northern bank of the Liao River. Its construction started in the second year of the Chongzhen era of the Ming Dynasty (1629), advocated by Xu Daxiang, an official of the Ministry of Personnel. It was built up to five stories before funding was exhausted and work halted. In the twelfth year of the Yongzheng era of the Qing Dynasty (1734), County Magistrate Gong Dapeng oversaw the completion of a seven-story, six-sided brick pagoda. Shaped like a writing brush, it was referred to as representing “literary style,” which phonetically resembles “Wenfeng Pagoda.” The pagoda stands 23 meters tall, with staircases between each level allowing visitors to climb and enjoy far-reaching views. In 1978, after the pagoda’s top pillar deteriorated, the county government allocated funds for renovation, repainting the exterior to restore its original appearance. From 1989 to 1991, with donations totaling 170,000 yuan from people across the county, further restoration enhanced its towering grace and radiant splendor.

In March 2018, it was announced as part of the sixth batch of provincial-level cultural relic protection units in Jiangxi Province.
