Fengtian Temple in New Port Township, renowned across Taiwan, is a third-grade historic site. Dedicated to the Goddess Mazu, it has a long history and enjoys year-round popularity with continuous streams of worshippers. The scramble for the first incense stick on New Year’s Day and the Mazu circumambulation procession are major events that bring thriving business to the surrounding streets.

After the Taiwan Sugar Railway Passenger Line’s Jiabei Line became defunct, the railway tracks along the line were abandoned. Later, between Zhongshan Road and Lane 111 of Dengyun Road in New Port Township, local residents participated in greening the area into a green space. Efforts were made to restore sleepers, track switches, warning devices, and to display original railway cultural elements such as diesel locomotives, handcars, boxcars, and caboose cars, creating what was nominated as a Railway Park.

Located about 100 meters in front of Fengtian Temple, New Port Railway Park is built around the former Jiabei Line railway—once used by small Taiwan Sugar trains, commonly known as “five-cent trains”—forming a rectangular leisure area.

The Chiayi County Natural History Education Museum has three floors showcasing ancient maps, ancient documents, bamboo farming tools, archaeological excavation artifacts, as well as various cultural displays from New Port including religion, rituals, education, and daily life…, all of which carry high educational value.
