Selection of Chiayi Souvenirs Kicks Off
What’s your impression of Chiayi? Square crackers or chicken rice? The 2010 Chiayi County Selected Souvenir Competition officially kicked off on October 21st. Chiayi County Magistrate Chang Hua-kuan stated that the first-ever selected souvenir competition in Chiayi County has abandoned the conventional method of voting for a “top ten” list, and pioneered a long-term marketing and promotion approach through building a database to establish a brand identity for Chiayi County souvenirs, aiming to increase industry income and enrich Chiayi’s tourism offerings.
This event is divided into three categories: agricultural, fishery, and specialty food products; processed goods; and cultural and creative industries. Any group, factory, company registered at an address in Chiayi County, or any individual residing in Chiayi County, may sign up to participate. At the press conference, on-site registration was done by businesses including Lao Yang Square Crackers, Tsou Chu Garden Coffee, Xiang Yi Cultural Park, coastal area cuttlefish roe, and king oyster mushroom producers. Hsuehko Township Chief Liu Chun-ting even personally attended to promote Hsuehko Hakka floral fabric.
Products selected as 2010 Chiayi County Selected Souvenirs will enjoy six major benefits, including being awarded the Chiayi Selected Souvenir certification emblem, three years of marketing and promotional support, priority promotion or exhibition rights at county government events, integrated image promotion via a dedicated event website, a booth at the 2011 “Back to Chiayi is Great” exhibition, and inclusion in the county government’s souvenir handbook. Going forward, seasonal limited-edition products, promotional items, travel-route-specific products, regionally recommended items, and top ten popular souvenirs will be organized based on the database.
