The Deng Family Memorial Archway is a cultural relic protection unit of Nanchang City.

Located in Dengjia Village, Shibi Town, it is a memorial arch commemorating the chastity of a woman surnamed Huang. Constructed in the 21st year of the Daoguang reign of the Qing Dynasty (1841), it faces south and stands 7 meters tall and 6 meters wide. Its beams and pillars are made of granite, and it has three gates and four columns. A blue stone plaque is embedded at the top, inscribed with the characters “柏节清操” (“Lofty Integrity and Pure Virtue”). The archway features carvings of dragons, phoenixes, lions, clouds, the moon, and human figures—all vivid and with smooth, flowing lines. On the front of the column inscriptions is a recessed couplet that reads: “For decades, her heart as pure as ice; for centuries, her virtue upheld by national decree.” It is a key cultural relic protection site in Nanchang City. According to records, the woman surnamed Huang, named Guilan, was from Luotian and lived south of the river. At the age of 16, she married Fusheng of Deng Village (descendant of Mu Ying), with whom she had two sons and one daughter. Known for her quiet temperament, she carefully taught her daughters, spoke sparingly, and exemplified virtuous conduct, truly living up to the ideal of a worthy wife. She treated others with kindness and honesty. During times of famine, she sold grain at reduced prices, valuing righteousness over wealth and aiding the poor and needy. She was regarded as a woman of noble character. Tragically, her life took an unforeseen turn—her husband passed away when she was just 28 years old, and later, at 55, both of her sons died as well. Despite these hardships, she remained steadfast in her virtue. Like the pine and cypress, she grew only stronger through frost; like metal and stone, her integrity grew firmer with time. She lived to a ripe old age and passed away peacefully.
