Huangcun Jingyi Hall

Huangcun Jingyi Hall, also known as the Hundred-Pillar Ancestral Hall, was built during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty. The hall is constructed from brick and wood, consisting of a courtyard, gate tower, main hall, rear hall, and rear sleeping quarters, covering an area of 1,200 square meters. At the center of the main hall hangs a plaque inscribed with the name “Jingyi Hall,” written by Zhang Yushu, Grand Secretary of the Wenhua Hall in the Qing Dynasty. The beams are adorned with exquisitely carved patterns such as “a mythical turtle spouting clouds” and “dragons and phoenixes bringing prosperity.” The four stone bases are engraved with motifs including “herons playing among lotuses,” “phoenixes dancing with peonies,” “cranes ascending through clouds,” and “magpies holding plum blossoms.” A photograph of this ancestral hall was exhibited in Paris, France, in 1982.

According to the *Xin’an Huang Family Genealogy*, Huangcun was established in 951 AD, during the Guangshun Year of the Later Zhou Dynasty of the Tang period, when Huang Yuchu, also known as the Hermit of the Sixth Name, migrated from Shimen Village in Gutan, Wuyuan, to Nanshan of the Huang family, which came to be called Huangcun.
