Golden Tea is a specialty of the mountainous regions of Yushan and Wuyuan County. This perennial shrub, scientifically known as Chimonanthus salicifolius or mountain wintersweet, grows in dense high-altitude forests above 800 meters. Traditionally used as an effective remedy to cool the body, relieve summer heat, improve health and digestion, soothe chest and abdominal pain, and alleviate irritability and coughs, the tea boasts a rich aroma, mellow flavor, and a taste that is sweet with a slight bitterness followed by a lingering sweetness. Due to its rare resources and unique efficacy, it is hailed as the “green leaf gold” and makes a wonderful gift for family and friends. Villagers in Wuyuan typically harvest it around the Dragon Boat Festival, bundling it and hanging it under their eaves for later use. Golden Tea contains various active components such as volatile oils, alkaloids, and flavonoids, along with trace elements like iron, calcium, zinc, and selenium, multiple vitamins, and 18 types of amino acids. It offers antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic, and immune-boosting effects, and has special therapeutic benefits for pain relief, cough suppression, expectoration, and the prevention and supportive treatment of bronchial asthma and viral influenza.
