Wuyuan Jiangwan Scenic Area

The Wuyuan Jiangwan Scenic Area is a national AAAAA-level tourist attraction.

The Jiangwan Scenic Area is located in the northeastern part of Wuyuan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province, covering an area of 27.4 square kilometers. It was opened to the public on June 20, 2001, situated 28 kilometers from downtown Wuyuan, 96 kilometers from the Huangshan scenic area, and just 1 kilometer from the Jing-Wu-Huang Expressway interchange.

Jiangwan is an ancient village with profound Huizhou cultural roots. The village preserves a large number of traditional Huizhou-style buildings, including Sanxing Hall, Dun Chong Hall, Peixin Hall, and the Teng Family Ancestral House, as well as attractions such as the Xiaojiang Ancestral Shrine, Jiang Yong Memorial Hall, Nan Guan Pavilion, and the Big Dipper Seven-Star Well. To showcase Wuyuan’s cultural characteristics, the Jiangwan Scenic Area has built new attractions such as the Hundred Crafts Workshop, Drum-Blowing Hall, and Commune Canteen, allowing visitors to experience the traditional craftsmanship of artisans of old and enjoy traditional performances such as Huizhou Opera and Wuyuan folk songs. These sites hold both historical and aesthetic value.

The Jiangwan Scenic Area is a national cultural and ecological tourism destination and a patriotic education base in Jiangxi Province. On January 16, 2013, it was officially awarded the title of “National 5A-Level Tourist Attraction.”

Jiangwan Village was established in the early Tang Dynasty, when families with the surnames Teng, Ye, Bao, and Dai settled around the river bend, gradually forming a sizable village. In the second year of the Yuanfeng era (1079) during the reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Northern Song Dynasty, the eighth-generation ancestor of the Xiaojiang family, Jiang Di, relocated to Jiangwan, and his descendants grew into a prominent clan.

Since the Tang Dynasty, Jiangwan has been a vital water and land transportation hub connecting Wuyuan to the three provinces of Anhui, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi, serving as the eastern gateway to Wuyuan.

Introduction:

Surrounded by picturesque landscapes, rich in natural resources, and known for its cultural prominence, Jiangwan is famed for its green tea and snow pears. The village has also produced many distinguished scholars, including Jiang Yong, a Qing Dynasty classicist and phonologist; Jiang Yilin, a Ming Dynasty Ministry of Revenue official during the Longqing era; and Jiang Qian, a renowned educator and Buddhist scholar in the late Qing Dynasty—truly representing Wuyuan’s identity as the “Land of Letters.” The village still retains well-preserved ancient Huizhou-style buildings such as Sanxing Hall, Dun Chong Hall, and Peixin Hall, as well as communal structures like Donghe Gate and the Water Dam Well, all of which hold significant historical and aesthetic value.

Jiangwan Town: Located at the junction of Anhui, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi provinces, Jiangwan Town covers a total area of 316 square kilometers, with 422,000 mu of forestland and a forest coverage rate of 88.9%. It governs 20 village (residential) committees and has a population of 32,154. The town is 28 kilometers from the county seat, 96 kilometers from Huangshan scenic area, and 110 kilometers from Jingdezhen, the “Porcelain Capital.” The Xiwu Highway runs through the area, and there is an interchange on the Jing-Wu-Huang (Chang) Expressway, providing very convenient transportation.
