Yangchun Ancient Stage

Guide: Located in Yangchun Village, Zhentou Town, it was built during the Ming Dynasty. It is connected to the ancestral hall of the Fang family at the front and features an open-air hall that can accommodate four to five hundred spectators.

Introduction:

The upper part of the stage is constructed using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery techniques. Sixteen upturned eaves are symmetrically arranged on all sides, with beams featuring corner-bracket sets (dougong), and a circular, pointed roof made of layered ornamental caisson ceilings, giving it an elegant appearance and sturdy structure. The stage is about 1.7 meters high, with a total front and back area of approximately 50 square meters, and includes 40 stage pillars. The front section is designed according to the requirements of Ming Dynasty legendary drama, featuring eight entrances to allow actors to enter and exit simultaneously. The backstage area is slightly smaller than the front and has a drum-shaped stone on each side.

Wuyuan County was historically part of Huizhou and is now part of Jiangxi Province. Huizhou culture has a long and rich history, and many architectural structures from the Ming and Qing dynasties are still preserved today, including ancient stages.

Ancient stages reflect the artistic style of traditional Chinese folk architecture and also embody important economic, cultural, and local customs characteristics of ancient Huizhou from hundreds of years ago. Most ancient stages were built within ancestral halls and formed part of the overall hall structure.

Zhentou Town: Xucun Town is located in the southwestern part of Wuyuan County, bordering Jingdezhen (the porcelain capital), Dexing (the copper capital), and Leping City. To the east is Zhongyun Town, to the south is Taibai Town, to the west is Zhenzhu Mountain Township, and to the north are Fuchun and Zhentou Towns. The town covers a total land area of 325,905 mu. The town government is located in Xucun, which is 38 kilometers from the county seat and 46 kilometers from Jingdezhen, offering convenient transportation. In December 1994, it was upgraded from a township to a town, and in April 2005, Fengzhou Township was merged into Xucun Town. Xucun Town currently governs 12 village committees, one neighborhood committee, and one town-managed forest farm, with a total population of 18,363, all of whom are Han Chinese.
