Wuyuan is an ancient county in Jiangxi Province with a long history. Historically, it was once under the jurisdiction of Anhui and was one of the six counties of the ancient Huizhou Prefecture. It is the hometown of Zhu Xi, a renowned Neo-Confucian scholar of the Southern Song Dynasty, and Zhan Tianyou, known as the father of China’s railways. Wuyuan is hailed as “the most beautiful countryside in China.” The natural landscape here is composed of a harmonious ensemble of mountains, water, bamboo, stones, trees, bridges, pavilions, streams, beaches, caves, waterfalls, boat crossings, and ancient dwellings—evoking the idyllic charm of a paradise on earth.
