Lingjiao Village

Lingjiao Village is a general term referring to several scattered villages at the foot of the Zhe Ridge. Once you cross this ridge, you enter Anhui Province, which is why travelers often call Lingjiao “the first village where the Wu and Chu regions meet.”

Lingjiao Village isn’t big or widely famous, but the hiking route from Lingjiao to Guankeng is quite popular among hikers. There aren’t many households in the village, and the few locals you see are mostly children and elderly. However, every few steps you’ll encounter students sitting on small stools, focused on sketching, as well as hikers with backpacks and tripods. Since I had booked a car and was short on time, I didn’t take this famous hiking route.

The hiking trail from Lingjiao to Guankeng is considered a classic for several reasons: first, it’s not very strenuous and can be completed in just three hours; second, it’s hard to get lost as you simply follow the ancient bluestone path, with a pavilion at regular intervals along the way; third, it saves time. When traveling in Wuyuan, given current transportation conditions, going from the northern-western route to the eastern route by road involves a long detour that takes about seven hours by vehicle, whereas walking covers the same west-to-east transition in just three hours.

In fact, when visiting Wuyuan, you really don’t have to go to those famous villages and scenic spots. Those places often seem overly polished, lacking any sense of authenticity. On the contrary, some lesser-known small villages exude a simple and genuine atmosphere of daily life that can make you feel truly refreshed and at ease.
