Xiyuan Garden, located on Tangcun Street in Wuyuan County, leans against Jinping Mountain to the left and borders Xingjiang River to the right. It is an exquisite Jiangnan-style garden.

Xiyuan Garden combines cultural history and natural landscapes, featuring attractions such as the Que Li Archway, Yingui Bridge, Zunjing Pavilion, Zhujia Village, Ziyang Academy, Thatched Cottage, and Zhu Fei Pond. The garden is embraced by mountains and water, abundant with verdant plants, meandering corridors, pavilions reflected in the water, and ever-changing views that delight the eyes and refresh the spirit. “A spoonful represents water, a fist-sized rock stands for a mountain.” Here at Xiyuan Garden, you can enjoy the pleasures of nature’s “mountains, waters, forests, and springs.” It offers the experience of “finding forest and mountain serenity without leaving the city, and enjoying pastoral bliss while residing in the urban bustle.”

Xiyuan Garden is a “literati-inspired landscape garden” rich in cultural significance. It was the residence of Zhu Tingjun, Zhu Xi’s second-generation ancestor, and Zhu Zhaoyuan, his third-generation ancestor. Zhu Xi visited home twice and came here to pay respects to his ancestors. Many historical sites of the Zhu family and remnants related to Zhu Xi remain. Ancient trees such as fragrant camphor, osmanthus, and bitter oaks, some hundreds of years old, still thrive vibrantly. These scholarly buildings, landscapes, and flora blend naturally and harmoniously, infusing every hill, body of water, blade of grass, and tree with profound artistic conception. Strolling through the garden offers spiritual enrichment and aesthetic pleasure.
