Wuyuan Qingfeng Fairyland

Wuyuan Qingfeng Fairyland is located in Yantian–Wangcun, Fuchun Town, northwest of Wuyuan County, Jiangxi Province, beside the ancient county seat road between Qinghua Town and Fuchun Town. Historical records state: In the first year of the Shaoxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty [1131], the anti-Jin general Yue Fei, while marching against Li Cheng and passing through Wuyuan, led his generals here to cool off and rest. Breezing from the Qingfeng Cave’s cool currents, they felt extremely refreshed after just a short sit, prompting Yue Fei to happily exclaim: “What a wonderful Qingfeng Fairyland!”

According to historical records: In the first year of the Shaoxing era of the Southern Song Dynasty, i.e., 1131 AD, the anti-Jin general Yue Fei, while marching against Li Cheng and passing through Wuyuan, led his generals here to cool off and rest. As refreshing breezes blew from the entrances of the Qingluo Twin Caves, the generals felt instantly at ease after just a brief moment, leading Yue Fei to exclaim in praise: “What a wonderful Qingfeng Fairyland!” Since then, the Qingluo Cave (named for its winding, spiral shape resembling a snail shell) has been called Qingfeng Cave, also known as the Qingfeng Cave Grotto. The Qingfeng Cave Grotto is a karst cave formed over 200 million years ago during the Paleozoic era. Inside the cave, stalactites and stalagmites take on a myriad of shapes, glistening brilliantly. Nature’s master craftsmanship has created numerous scenic spots such as the “Fairy Pond,” “Dragon Palace,” “Ruyi Golden Pillar,” “Qingluo Waterfall Curtain,” “Peach Blossom Immortal Pool,” “Phoenix Pool,” “Immortal Bridge,” “Stone Gate Pass,” “Thousand Buddha Mountain,” and “Sky-Supporting Pillar,” all of which are too magnificent to take in all at once, making visitors linger without wanting to leave.

Wuyuan is located in the mid-subtropical zone, with distinct seasons, but the cave offers a different world. In the depths of winter, mist fills the air, yet the cave remains spring-like and warm; in the peak of summer, while cicadas chirp incessantly outside, inside the cave palace it is cool as a dragon’s realm. Within the Dragon Palace there is a “Dragon Well,” which legend says responded to prayers for rain in the old days. Above the cave palace, the slopes are lined with craggy rocks and winding paths lead into serene seclusion—making it a truly great destination for tourism.
