Alpine Lake on the Highland

Alpine Lake on the Highland refers to lakes situated high in the mountains. On the mountain road from Jiangling to Qingyuan, there is a viewpoint where you can capture the scenery of an alpine lake, but there are no signs along the way, so it's easy to miss.

Wuyuan has a place called Gaohu Mountain, where legend says there is a lake at the summit — considered the original alpine lake of Wuyuan. But for some unknown reason, now only a well remains. Moreover, as Wuyuan is a mountainous region, many villages have built reservoirs high up in the mountains to generate electricity and ensure irrigation for the paddy fields below. These are poetically referred to as alpine lakes. Among them, Duanxin Reservoir is the largest in Wuyuan and sits at a high altitude, surrounded by mountains, making it the modern representation of an alpine lake. Therefore, when people in Wuyuan refer to an alpine lake nowadays, they usually mean Duanxin Reservoir.
