Dayan Inkstone Village

When the Wang family first migrated to Dayan at the end of the Tang Dynasty, they saw a bighead carp swimming upstream, so they named the place “Yuxi” (Bighead Carp Stream). Later, when Zhu Yuanzhang passed through this area and climbed the mountain to enjoy the scenery, he exclaimed, “What a vast plain!” and thus the name was changed to Dayan (Great Plain).

Since ancient times, this place has been known for its strong literary tradition and a continuous line of scholars. From the Tang and Song dynasties to the Qing Dynasty, it produced three prime ministers, four generations of “Tian Guan” (Heavenly Officials), 11 ministers, 36 jinshi (successful imperial examination candidates), and over 103 officials of seventh rank or higher. It is the ancient village in Huizhou history that produced the most jinshi and provincial examination graduates. It is also one of the sacred sites for people surnamed Wang around the world to trace their roots, and it is the birthplace of She inkstones. Two of the ten major Northern Song Dynasty ancient inkstone quarries of She inkstones are located in Dayan.

Jiangwan Town: Located at the junction of Anhui, Zhejiang, and Jiangxi provinces, Jiangwan Town covers a total area of 316 square kilometers, with 422,000 mu of forest land and a forest coverage rate of 88.9%. It governs 20 village (residential) committees and has a population of 32,154. The town is 28 kilometers from the county seat, 96 kilometers from the scenic Huangshan Mountain, and 110 kilometers from Jingdezhen, the porcelain capital. The Xiyu Highway runs through the town, and there is an interchange on the Jing-Wu-Huang (Chang) Expressway, making transportation very convenient. Jiangwan has fertile land and abundant produce.
