Zhu Xi was a native of Wuyuan County, Huizhou Prefecture, Jiangnan East Road, Southern Song Dynasty (now Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province). He passed the imperial examination at the age of 19, served as the Pacification Commissioner of Jingnan West Road, and rose to the position of Attendant at the Baowen Pavilion. During his governance, he enforced decrees, punished corrupt officials, and achieved remarkable administrative results. He was a renowned Neo-Confucian scholar, thinker, philosopher, educator, poet, and representative of the Min School, widely known as Master Zhu. He is considered the most outstanding master in promoting Confucianism since Confucius and Mencius. The Shangrao Zhu Xi Memorial Hall covers an area of 300 square meters. The memorial hall consists of three exhibition rooms: the first mainly introduces Zhu Xi’s life, works, and influence throughout the dynasties; the second displays and explains the relics and legends left by Zhu Xi during his two returns to his hometown; the third focuses on Zhu Xi’s Neo-Confucian philosophy, as well as his patriotism and agrarian ideology. The Shangrao Zhu Xi Memorial Hall is located within the Wenzifeng Zhu Zi Cultural Park in the Wenzifeng Scenic Area of Wuyuan County, Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province.
