Xiexitou Shegong Altar

The Xiexitou Shegong Altar is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The Xiexitou Shegong Altar is located in Wuyuan County and dates back to the Qing Dynasty.

Among all community shrines in Huizhou, many boast grand architecture, but few are as perfectly preserved as the Shegong Altar in Xiexi. Ever since the village was founded in the Song Dynasty, a community temple has stood here, and the worship of the Shegong deity has been observed continuously to the present day. The current shrine, referred to locally as the “Shegong Altar,” features an overall architectural style characteristic of the late Qing Dynasty, clearly built upon the foundation of the original structure. Compared to the other two community shrines in Huizhou, its carvings are more intricate, its beams and pillars are made of larger timber, and its floor is paved with large bluestone slabs—making for a truly spectacular sight. It is no exaggeration to call it the “Number One Community Shrine in Southern China.”

The Xiexitou Shegong Altar has been designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.
