Hall of the Immortal Zhang Kang

The Hall of the Immortal Zhang Kang is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangxi Province.

The Hall of the Immortal Zhang Kang is the main structure within the Sanhou Temple architectural complex. It faces east and features a three-courtyard layout constructed with earth, wood, and brick. The building has a flush-gable roof with fire-resistant walls. The front has two sets of latticed wooden doors, while the rear and side walls on the ground floor are made of lime-sand concrete, and the upper floor is built with kiln bricks without any windows. Inside, the hall is supported by nine pairs of square stone pillars with raised-beam construction, using mortise-and-tenon joints for beams, columns, purlins, and rafters in both yin and yang styles, along with bracket sets (dougu). It also includes two octagonal caisson ceilings, one covered pavilion, and a flat ceiling on the upper floor. There is a central courtyard between the front hall and the middle hall, while the rear hall has two side-wall courtyards near the middle hall for drainage and lighting. The upper section of the rear hall features a tall, two-story lattice-floor tower-style octagonal covered pavilion that allows light in. The floral arches and inserted brackets in the architectural structure are typical of the region, reflecting southern Chinese construction methods and styles. It was designated as a municipal-level cultural heritage site in 2005.
