Fourteen Students from Changsha University of Science and Technology Cycle to Zhangjiajie
With participation from over a thousand people, a total low-carbon mileage of nearly 300,000 kilometers, and nearly 20,000 original Weibo posts published... On September 20, the "Be Low-Carbon, Get Subsidized – Bring Your Weibo and See the 'Sea' in Zhangjiajie" event at Wulingyuan Scenic Area in Zhangjiajie successfully concluded.
Since its launch on June 28, the event has attracted over a thousand low-carbon travel enthusiasts from multiple provinces including Hunan, Hubei, and Chongqing, who actively signed up via Weibo. Participants ranged in age from as young as 10 to as old as 67, including “solo travelers,” “couples,” “father-son teams,” “groups of friends,” and “romantic duos,” collectively covering a low-carbon distance of nearly 300,000 kilometers. This event not only enhanced the tourism brand image of Zhangjiajie but also strongly promoted healthy, low-carbon, and eco-friendly travel concepts. It is reported that offering free admission and subsidies to low-carbon travelers is the first initiative of its kind among scenic areas nationwide.
"Happy and Healthy" is the theme of China’s tourism promotion this year, with "Joyful Travel, Embrace Health" becoming a new travel philosophy for visitors across the country. Centered around this annual theme, Wulingyuan District leveraged its rich resource characteristics to creatively launch the "Be Low-Carbon, Get Subsidized – Bring Your Weibo and See the 'Sea' in Zhangjiajie" event. The campaign ingeniously integrated Weibo with travel, enabling online dialogue and interaction between travelers and the organizers, significantly boosting the event’s appeal and highlights. For example, on August 1, a “group of friends” comprising 14 students from Changsha University of Science and Technology set off from Changsha and cycled all the way to Zhangjiajie, attracting full coverage from the Shanghai Television Station’s foreign language channel program "Drive the World."
According to the head of the Promotion Office at Wulingyuan District Tourism Bureau, the event generated considerable buzz across society, with nearly 20,000 original Weibo posts related to the activity circulating online, accumulating millions of clicks, reposts, and comments. Industry insiders have commented that Zhangjiajie not only played the "low-carbon tourism card" well but also successfully utilized Weibo for online marketing, marking a truly innovative move in tourism promotion. Wu Xinchí and Wu Gěng, an “father-son team” from Hubei who took part in the event, stated that they aim to cycle to Zhangjiajie every year in the future to promote the healthy concept of low-carbon environmentalism through this method.
