Monument to the Martyrdom Site of Huang Jingyuan

The Monument to the Martyrdom Site of Huang Jingyuan is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangxi Province.

The site where martyr Huang Jingyuan sacrificed his life — the Banbianjie Square in Anyuan.

Huang Jingyuan was from Chenzhou, Hunan, and a leader of the Anyuan labor movement. On September 21, 1925, he was arrested by reactionary warlords and subsequently taken to the Pingxiang prison. During more than twenty days in prison, he remained unshaken by the enemy’s temptations and torture. On October 16, Huang Jingyuan was shot dead by the enemy at Banbianjie Square. After his death, the workers of Anyuan, undaunted by... , held a memorial service here. The next day, they secretly transported his remains to Liling, conducted a solemn funeral, and then shipped the coffin to Changsha by train.

In September 1926, the Northern Expeditionary Army arrived in Anyuan, reinstated the Anyuan Road and Mine Workers’ Club, and renamed it the Pingxiang Mining Federation of Trade Unions. Under the leadership of the federation, the workers carried out a series of political activities. On October 16, a gathering of over 20,000 people was held to commemorate the first anniversary of the sacrifice of martyrs including Huang Jingyuan, and the “Monument to the Martyrdom Site of Huang Jingyuan” was erected here. The inscription on the monument was written by Zhu Shaolian, chairman of the Zhuping Railway Federation of Trade Unions. The monument faces south and is situated to the north, standing 2.4 meters high, 1.56 meters wide, and 2.6 meters long, covering an area of 40 square meters.

In October 1984, it was listed as a cultural relic protection unit of Pingxiang City; on March 9, 2018, it was designated as part of the sixth batch of cultural relic protection units of Jiangxi Province.
